Spring is here and with it comes baseball, flowers, and a TON of fun kid-friendly events in San Francisco.  Read on for the most kid friendly events in San Francisco for March 2017.

Free Day At the Bay Area Discovery Museum: March 1

Explore an imagination playground, tot spot, interactive exhibits, birthday parties and art studios. First Wednesday of the month is FREE.  In addition to free Wednesday, BADM also has many fun events throughout March.  Checkout their website for more info.

Drop in Art at Contemporary Jewish Museum : Sundays at 11AM

Every first and second Sunday and select school holidays from 11am–3pm, families can experience a new adventure in art-making free with admission to The Contemporary Jewish Museum. As always, the hands-on fun inspires children to learn more about the exhibitions on display in the galleries, the building’s architecture, or holidays and traditions while experimenting with materials and art.

Magnolia Bloom at the San Francisco Botanical Gardens: early March

Marvel at the dazzling pink, white and magenta flowers on magnolia trees, many of which are rare and historic. Hours are 7:30am-4pm in Jan., 7:30am-5pm Feb.-early March and 7:30am-6pm from the second Sunday in March until the end of the month.

$5 Friday at Chabot Space Center: March 3, 6PM

The Chabot Space and Science Center will offer hands-on activities and live demonstrations for the whole family at this event on the first Friday of each month.

Bay Area Discovery Museum Superhero STEM Series: March 4th

The Bay Area Discovery Museum’s STEM Superhero Series is a four-part festival for families that promotes and celebrates early learning STEM concepts and the power of every child to use their problem solving skills to improve the future. Each festival features a variety of STEM activities, which challenge young children to design, imagine, and test innovations to solve specific problems.

Experience Gray Whales at Point Reyes: March 4th at 11AM

Volunteer docents will be available to answer questions about gray whales. Visitors can view the whales through park-provided binoculars and scopes.

Kayaking at Lake Merced: March 4th, at 1PM

Learn the basics of kayaking, including proper stroke, type of kayaks and weather conditions. Students must know how to swim and provide their own wet suits if they want a wet suit. For ages 9 and up.

San Francisco History Days at the Old Mint: March 4th and 5th

FREE and Open to the public, this year’s Annual San Francisco History Days expects to be an even greater success than years past! Visit The Old Mint the first weekend in March and join dozens of organizations celebrating and telling the stories of the City’s unique past. Community historians, archivists, genealogists, archaeologists, researchers, educators, re-enactors and other history enthusiasts will enjoy a FREE Community Open House on Saturday and Sunday at the historic site.

Creative Family Fun at the Presidio: March 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th

From dragonflys to grass friends, drop in for some crafty fun at the Presidio Officer’s Club Sundays throughout the monht.

Learn to Ride with the Presidio Y: March 5th at 11AM

Family Fun Day at the Asian Art Museum: March 5th at 10:30AM

Discover and play as a family at the Asian Art Museum. On Family Fun Days, our gallery activities, creative art projects and immersive storytelling make art appreciation into a lively, family-friendly event. Themes and projects change regularly, so visit again and again.

Aladdin and His Wonderful Magical Lamp: March 11 at 10:30AM

Children’s Theatre Association’s adaptation of Aladdin And His Wonderful, Magical Lamp tells the story of a poor street boy, Aladdin, who (with the help from 3 Genies, a dragon who can talk, his mischievous pet monkey, and his family) uses his wits to outsmart the evil and powerful magician, Jammal, and win the Princess Jasmine’s hand in marriage. Tickets $15

St. Patricks Day Parade and Festival: March 11th at 11:30AM

The United Irish Societies of San Francisco hosts the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival. Sat., March 11. FREE. The festivities begin with a Mass at 9am at St. Patrick’s Church, 756 Mission St. The festival, which includes Irish music, dancing, food and drink, runs 10am-5pm. The parade starts at 11:30am with the route beginning at 2 ^nd and Market streets and continuing to Civic Center.

Meet the Animals of the Randall Museum: March 11th at 11AM

Meet some of the more than 100 animals housed at the Randall Museum who can no longer survive in the wild. Check out rodents, amphibians and maybe even a Swainson’s hawk or tortoise. Location: Mission Arts Center

Music for Families at SF Symphony: March 11th at 2PM

Did you know that it takes more than 100 people working together to make a symphony orchestra sound great? Take a tour of the key sections of an orchestra and see how they work together.

St. Patrick’s Day 5K: March 12th at 9AM

Run west along Crissy Field/ Golden Gate Promenade. Stay along path onto Fort Point National Historic Site.

Purim Party at the Contemporary Jewish Museum: March 12th at 10AM

In celebration of Purim, family fun includes a mask and crown workshop, Purim-themed stories and games and a musical parade with the Bug Family Band.

Marin Mammal Center Marine Science Sunday: March 12th at 10AM

This month’s title, The Big, the Small and the Weird, centers on the diversity of life that lives in the ocean. Docent-led tours will show you patients the center is caring for and how veterinarians are helping them heal.

Bouquets to Art at the De Young Museum: March 14th-19th

The most in-demand floral designers from the Bay Area and beyond, draw inspiration from the art in the de Young’s collection to create arrangements from the strikingly simple to the elaborately intricate. Enjoy a lecture with a friend, make reservations for an elegant seated luncheon, and try your luck in the luxury-prize raffle.

Pi Day at the Exploratorium: March 14th at 10AM

Celebrate the 30th annual Pi Day, the mathematical holiday founded at the Exploratorium and honored by math lovers around the world. Participate in Pi-themed activities, rituals and enjoy plenty of pie.

Family Jazz Matinee: Tiffany Austin: March 18th at 11AM

In honor of Women’s History Month, singer Tiffany Austin honors First Lady of Song Ella Fitzgerald. Austin has a law degree and has performed on three continents.

Young Zoologists: Radical Reptiles at SF Zoo: March 18th at 1PM

Kids ages 5-8 are invited to learn about these unique animals. Activities include crafts, games, a chat with a zookeeper, zoo walks and a snack.

Background Design at the Walt Disney Museum March 18th at 2PM

From tiny rooms and caves to city streets and magical forests, see how a character’s location can be just as important as the characters themselves. Learn to create backgrounds that bring forth the emotions within. For ages 7-17.

Experience Elephant Seals: March 19th at 11AM

Volunteer docents will be stationed at the Elephant Seal Overlook at Chimney Rock. Visitors can view an elephant seal colony through park-provided binoculars and scopes. Check website for additional times.

Bay Area Parent Camp Fair: March 19th at 1PM

Bay Area Parent’s annual Summer Camp Fair will be held at Serramonte Center in Daly City. Open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., this free fair will feature dozens of overnight and day camps. Camp representatives will be on hand to answer questions and to pass out schedules and brochures. This is a great way to plan out a fun and entertaining (and educational!) summer for your kids!

Legion Of Art: Art Making: March 25th, at 10AM

Stop by the Piazzoni Murals Room to get a gallery guide before heading into the galleries. After completing the handout with your children, head back to create an art project related to what you just saw.

Movie Night at Pier 39: Forest Gump: March 31st at 7:459PM

Grab your blankets and head to PIER 39 for outdoor Movie Nights, held the last Friday of every month through September! Before the show, get a bite to eat at one of PIER 39’s restaurants, or take advantage of special Movie Night discounts at participating businesses.
