February is here!  The month of love, Black History Month, Chinese New Year, and so much more!  Last year February was a pretty tough month for us (read bout it here ).  So we are so looking forward to a total change this year and taking part in all the great events happening this month.  Read on for a listing of all the great kid0friendly events happening in February 2017 in San Francisco.

Magnolia Bloom at the San Francisco Botanical Gardens: All Month Long

Marvel at the dazzling pink, white and magenta flowers on magnolia trees, many of which are rare and historic. Hours are 7:30am-4pm in Jan., 7:30am-5pm Feb.-early March and 7:30am-6pm from the second Sunday in March until the end of the month.

Bay Are Discovery Museum Free Day: February 1

Explore an imagination playground, tot spot, interactive exhibits, birthday parties and art studios. First Wednesday of the month is FREE.  In addition to free Wednesday, BADM also has many fun events throughout February.  Checkout their website for more info.

Gilbert and Sullivan’s Patience: February 3 – 5

A sparkling satirical comic opera that pokes fun at artistic and cultural whims. Come revel in the comic stylings of that aesthete-to-end-all-aesthetes, Reginald Bunthorne, as he pursues the winsome and simple milkmaid Patience while simultaneously enjoying the worshipful adoration of his 20 love-sick groupies; at teh Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Experience Gray Whales at Point Reyes Lighthouse: February 4, 11AM

View gray whales through park-provided binoculars and scopes and discuss the whales with experts.

Creative Family Fun: Scaly Sidekicks: February 4 & 5, 11AM

February 1 is National Serpent Day! The Presidio is home to slithering snakes and lovely lizards. Learn about some of our reptile friends and make your own finger puppet to take home.

Drop in Art Class @ the Randall Museum: February 4, 1PM

Design and make a clay pendant and beads and then string together.  This and other art projects every Satruday from 1PM-4PM.

Drop in Art at Contemporary Jewish Museum : Sundays at 11AM

Every first and second Sunday and select school holidays from 11am–3pm, families can experience a new adventure in art-making free with admission to The Contemporary Jewish Museum. As always, the hands-on fun inspires children to learn more about the exhibitions on display in the galleries, the building’s architecture, or holidays and traditions while experimenting with materials and art.

Story Telling at the Asian Art Museum: February 5, 1PM

Listen to stories about heroic boys and girls, animal legends and tales about dynamic deities.

History Play Date: Vintage Valentines : February 11, 11AM-2PM

Design your own valentines inspired by vintage ones. Use decorative paper, stickers and images. FREE but RSVP requested. California Historical Society, 678 Mission St. 415-357-1848.

SF Giants Fan Fest February 11

It’s not quite baseball season yet, but the SF Giants and their fans are going to kick into action this month with the annual Fan Fest event. This is your chance to meet players like Madison Bumgarner and Buster Posey, get their autographs, take photos with the World Series trophies, play catch on the field, and purchase new merchandise. Admission is totally free, so get on your orange and black and get ready for a fun-filled day at beautiful AT&T Park from 10am to 3pm.

Chinese New Year Parade: February 11, 6PM-8PM

Named one of the top ten Parades in the world by IFEA, the Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco is one of the few remaining night illuminated Parades in the country. Started in the 1860’s by the Chinese in San Francisco as a means to educate the community about their culture, the Parade and Festival have grown to be the largest celebration of Asian culture outside of Asia.  Check here for a listing of the many events happening this month to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Vintage Valentine’s Day Walt Disney Shorts

Celebrate with a special selection of classic Disney love-themed clips. With works ranging from 1929-1965, this collection will get your heart thumping. Mon., Wed., Thu., Fri., Sun. 1pm. Creative Family Fun: Constellation Celebration: February 11 & 12, 11AM

This weekend, we’re looking at stars! Make a craft of your favorite constellation during the day and later, join the Presidio star gazing party. The San Francisco Amateur Astronomers will bring their telescopes to the Main Parade Ground and help you discover the Presidio’s night sky on February 13.

TulipMania at Pier 39: February 11 – 19

Pier 39 comes alive with the vibrant colors of more than 39,000 blooming tulips and seasonal garden favorites. Learn gardening tips.

Romance in the Redwoods @ Big Basin Redwoods State Park: February 12, 11:30AM

On this easy 2 hour walk you will learn about the courtship behaviors of some of the park’s most fascinating plants and animals. Join us and discover how banana slugs, redwood trees and more celebrate love in the wild! Meet at Park Headquarters.

Salsa Rueda Festival February 16-19

This is the 9th year of the Salsa Rueda Festival in SF, an annual encounter of legendary instructors, Latin musicians and DJs, and dance enthusiasts of all levels. Join in on the fun at Hotel Whitcomb for four days of dancing, performances, live music, workshops, a beginner bootcamp, lectures, and late night parties.  Dance styles include rueda, salsa, casino, folklore, rumba, son, and more. This is one of the San Francisco events in February that is always over President’s Day Weekend.

Classical Music For Kids in Noe Valley : February 18, 10:30AM

This program by the Trinity Alps Chamber Players is centered around musical arrangements of Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories. Each instrument will take the role of a different character or animal in the story. There will also be a petting zoo of the instruments following the concert. ($15 per person, $40 for family of four).

Experience Elephant Seals: February 19th, 11AM

View an elephant seal colony through park-provided binoculars and scopes. Ask volunteer docents about the adaptations and life cycles of northern elephant seals. Through March 26.  Elephant Seal overlook near chimney rock.

Movie Night at Pier 39: February 24th, 6PM

Grab your blankets and head to PIER 39 for outdoor Movie Nights, held the last Friday of every month through September! Before the show, get a bite to eat at one of PIER 39’s restaurants, or take advantage of special Movie Night discounts at participating businesses. Family Matinee: Marcus Shelby Orchestra at SFJazz: February 25, 11AM

With special guests from the Lyric Performing Arts Academy, the Marcus Shelby Orchestra celebrates the stunning musical stories of the Underground Railroad and honors the memory of one of history’s most important champions of freedom: Harriet Tubman.

Aladdin and His Wonderful Magical Lamp at the Palace of Fine Arts: February 25

The Children’s Theatre Association of San Francisco performs this show about a boy and a genie.  Performances are at 10:30am and 1pm Jan. Feb 25 and March 11.
