Here are five things I am loving and doing this week:
When we just had one little one, we would all go to the beach on the weekend to walk the dog. Big D and I would play in the sand while Mr. H walked T-Dawg. Since we became a family of four we don’t go together to the beach as a family as often (usually Mr. H takes T-dawg on his own), but when we do go, we have a blast. With all the recent storms, there are a ton of sticks on the beach for fort building. This Saturday morning visit last week reminded me we should go more often.
If you don’t already have a banana brad recipe you love, try this one from Martha Stewart , it is super moist, thanks to sour cream. Tater Tot is addicted!
I started a new book this week: Grain Brain by David Perlmutter, MD that talks about the connection between your diet and brain disease (think Alzheimer’s). I love my grains and my carbs, so we will see if I actually change my diet, but so far it is fascinating.
I went to a screening of SCREENAGERS last week. It is an amazing movie that looks at the relationship between screen time and kids. “Award-winning SCREENAGERS probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including the director’s own, and depicts messy struggles, over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through surprising insights from authors and brain scientists solutions emerge on how we can empower kids to best navigate the digital world.”
The creators of the movie want the movie to bring people together and start the conversation about kids in the digital age, so they are not releasing the movie for streaming, but rather you can host a screening in your community. It was amazing to go to a screening at our school and to be part of the conversation afterwards.
Big D’s kindergarten class went to Windrush Farm this week for a field trip. They learned about how wool is made, how baby lambs eat, and even got to feed the sheep. It was an awesome opportunity to get out of the city and enjoy some country air. Not only do they do field trips, but they have a summer camp and other fun events throughout the year, check it out.
